OK naysayers, now we know we can use a cast-iron skillet on a Blackstone griddle, you’re probably still thinking about why you should bother, and we’re here to tell you exactly why!
We almost feel like traitors for saying that, but it’s true. Sometimes, you just don’t need to use your griddle.
But that doesn’t mean you don’t want to cook outdoors and enjoy the fresh evening air, so when times like these arise, reach for your cast iron skillet, and cook outdoors on your Blackstone griddle.
Recently, my oven was dying which meant no stovetop, so when it was time for a pasta dinner, yep, used the Blackstone! You can see in the picture below, I was able to use a regular pot for boiling water and a cast iron pan to cook the meat and add sauce, it worked well!

Clean Up Is Easier
If you’re still not convinced, then this ought to sway you. We love our griddles just as much as you do, but there’s no denying the cleanup is never fun.
Wiping down all the oils and fats and discarding any excess bits of food you missed whilst cooking can be a lengthy process, but with a cast-iron skillet, you literally have one thing to clean.

- Griddle Hood: This is a bit of a bigger deal than many think initially. A quality griddle hood will help you cook better by controlling heat and creating a “oven” as well as protecting your griddle cover from coming in contact with your griddle surface that can either be dirty or really hot. - Griddle Cover: I didn’t think I needed one either. But, I found out very soon how great of a job they did from preventing unnecessary wear and tear from the weather when being stored in my back yard. Its a small investment that pays back big time. Something like this works great here on Amazon.
- Infrared Temperature Gun: See Step 4 above, these are really crucial to fully understand what your griddle can do and what areas are putting out the heat you need, and what areas can be used to just keep the food warm while working on others. - Grease Tins: These are dirt cheap and save you an unnecessary headache when cleaning up. Simply drop them into the grease trap and toss them when you’re done! Check these here on Amazon.
