Trying to decide between the Blackstone 17″ and the Blackstone 22″? It can be tough, but we have some input that might help.

If you’ve yet to pick up a Blackstone Griddle, then the sheer number of options available can be a little overwhelming. But this should inspire some confidence, too.

If there are so many models, then Blackstone must be doing something right, right?

Today we’ll be looking at two models, first by taking a brief look at their specifications, but then looking at what model would be the right fit for you based on the things you want to get out of it.

Which Model Is Right For You?

As you can see from the above comparison, there isn’t much difference between the two in terms of what they offer.

They’re both easily transportable, and both feed the same amount of people, but there are a few subtle differences that are important to customers, because they may make using the griddles easier.

To finish, we’ll compare the most important aspects of the two griddles and suggest which one will be best for you based on different circumstances in which you might want to use it.

Camping Trips

If you’re looking for a new griddle to take with you on camping trips, then you need to consider which of the two models we’ve looked at will be right for you.

Think about the number of people you cook for on these trips. The more there are, the bigger you’ll want your portable outdoor griddle to be.

The Blackstone 22″ might be the better option for bigger parties, or for when you need to cook multiple items of food at once, given that there are 2 independent cooking zones you can control.

It’s also a great option because of the wheel stand, making it much easier to move to the spot you want at your campsite.

That being said, the 17″ is collapsible and is probably much easier for you to pack alongside everything else you’ll be taking. If you’re a smaller party of around 4 people or less, then the Blackstone 17″ will be a much better fit for your particular trip.

Remember, consider what usually happens on your camping trips and purchase a griddle accordingly. If you’re going to need more space, then don’t opt for the 17″ model.

Likewise, if you don’t have the need for the 22″ model, then save yourself the extra cash when you buy, and space in your trunk as you pack!

Backyard BBQ’s

As both outdoor griddles are portable, you might not think of this scenario straight away. But there’s no point in having two griddles, when you can have one that can stay at home and come with you when you need it to.

So, think about how many people you cook for at a backyard BBQ, because even with the best will in the world, you’re probably going to use your portable griddle at home the most. Again, pick which is best for you.

The sturdier stand of the Blackstone 22″ might be better for this more permanent setup, considering the 17″ has a collapsible stand. If you need the backyard space, then the 17″ might be best for you, as it will make storage a little easier.

Again, you know you and your particular needs, but it’s a scenario worth considering before you decide which griddle to purchase.

Picnics

Now, if your primary purpose for picking up a griddle is for picnics, then we would simply suggest the 17″ straight away.

This is because picnics are a leisurely activity, you probably have other food too, and you won’t have people standing around staring at your cooking burgers expectantly.

The Blackstone 17″ outdoor griddle will be a much better fit because it’s lighter (which will make things much easier considering you’ll be laden with food, drink, and fun activities to keep everyone busy) and more easily stored, making best for picnics.

RVing

Just like above, there is an obvious answer for those looking for a griddle for RVing.

The Blackstone 22″ would be a perfect fit, because you have the two independent cooking zones which would be great for cooking breakfasts during your trip, you don’t need to worry about space in an RV, and it will be much easier for you to bring along with you and take out of the RV when it’s time to cook.

Tailgating

It’s the day of a big game, and you’re headed out to the stadium car park for some excellent food and a few drinks in the sunshine.

Sound familiar? If tailgating is your main reason for buying a griddle, then we would recommend the Blackstone 17″ griddle.

It’ll be much easier for you to pack in the back of your truck or car, along with everything else you’ll be taking along with you, and the slightly smaller size will be much more convenient to you as you try cooking in a potentially busy car park.

Conclusion

If your still not sure, or maybe not sold on specifically a smaller Blackstone, check out our comparison of all the portable gas griddles perfect for the outdoors, here.

Just to finish, we’d advise that you take everything we’ve suggested with a small grain of salt.

That’s because our suggestions are not final, it’s our belief that following our advice would ultimately lead to more satisfaction for you as the customer, and it certainly would mean getting more use out of your griddle for the different scenarios above.

However, you know your particular wants and needs, and if they don’t align with our advice, then do what you think is best.

So long as you are happy with the griddle decision you have made, then you’ll get the most out of it, and that is the main reason for owning one of Blackstone’s amazing outdoor griddles, anyway!

Griddle Accessories You WILL ACTUALLY NEED

This is another big one. While your griddle does come ready to use….its missing some really BASIC items you will need.

The Flippin Awesome Backyard Griddle Cookbook: While instagram and facebook may share a few good recipes, this bok is full of some really tasty and unique treats to griddle up the next time your feeling ambitious. From the basics to the brilliant, this griddle cookbook has it all.

Griddle Spade and Spatula: These are the backbone of griddle chefs all over the world. Due to the flat-top design of a griddle, you will need to have metal surfaced griddle spatulas and spades. Something simple like this works great, see it here on Amazon.

Inferred Temperature Gun: See Step 4 above, these are really crucial to fully understand what your griddle can do and what areas are putting out the heat you need, and what areas can be used to just keep the food warm while working on others. This is a great option that won’t hurt your wallet, check it on Amazon.

Grease Tins: These are dirt cheap and save you an unnecessary headache when cleaning up. Simply drop them into the grease trap and toss them when you’re done! Check these here on Amazon.

Griddle Bottles: Another must-have, you really only need two. One for water, and one for your chosen cooking oil. If you’re not sure what I mean, check out our Guide to Griddle Bottles here. These on Amazon work great and are cheap, check them out here.

Griddle King Apron: I know what you’re thinking “I’m not wearing an apron” and yeah, I get it. But all that changed when I got a griddle and realized how much grease is popping off the griddle surface and landing on my clothes. A simple apron solves that and my signature “Griddle King” or “Griddle Queen” apron is a cheap easy fix for you, grab it here on Etsy.
